Add free DLC’s to your legal The Sims 3 (Pack System)
You must have at least a legal base game for this system.
Advantages:
You play via Origin (also possible off-line)
You have the latest version, 1.69.43.024017
You can select the DLC’s you want to play with
No cracks, so no problems with your anti-virus
Better use of your graphics card (higher resolutions available)
Access to the Gallery
Preparations in Origin
Locate your installation folder
Change some settings in Origin
Log in to your Origin account
Click on the word Origin (left top bar)
Click Application Settings
In the top menu bar click on Installs & Saves
Look at “On your computer” -> “Game library location”
What you see there is where your The Sims 3 folder will install
By default your installation folder would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3. Don’t add “The Sims 3” to the path mentioned under Game library location.
Log in to your Origin account
Click on the word Origin (left top bar)
Click Application Settings
Click Application
In Client update: switch “Automatic game updates” and “Automatically update Origin” on
Now your game and Origin update whenever you start your The Sims 3 (if there are updates of course)
I have a legal copy of Sims 3 on the EA desktop app so I downloaded some packs but the instructions were unclear of how to add them. “Installation folder” Can mean a lot of different things. Which files go exactly where?
This only works on the EA Desktop or Origin version, but it does work well. It DOES NOT work with the DVD copy of the game, if you have a DVD copy of The Sims 3 and want all the DLC, make an EA Desktop account and use the serial key of your Sims 3 physical copy in the “Use a Code” section of your EA Library. Then you can download The Sims 3 on the EA app and use this guide. This is what I did and it worked for me.

The installation folder is the one where EA has put your legal copy in.
Probably C:\Program Files(x86)\The Sims 3
