Pack System: Add DLC’s to your legal base game (Mac version)

Unpleasant message by Anadius for Mac players:

Okay, fine, I’ll make an announcement as clear as possible because people won’t shut up.

I’m not going to make a DLC Unlocker for EA app on Mac.

I don’t know how to keep using Origin without switching to EA app. I don’t know any tricks.

There isn’t a native cracked version of The Sims 4 for Mac. And considering it’s been over 9 years since the release – there probably won’t be any in the future either.

There’s a Windows version running through Wine/Wineskin/CorssOver – this works on Macs, even M1 ones. You can find it on NXMac, I won’t help you with installing it. You can update it with Sims 4 Updater though.

Why I’m not going to make a new Unlocker? Because I don’t have a Mac. And I’m not going to remote connect into someone else’s computer. I did that when making DLC Unlocker v1, but that one was much more primitive, and I did most of the work on Windows, then just replicated the method on Mac. I can’t do that with Unlocker v2 so I’d have to come up with a new method. I have one in mind but the installation instructions would be much, much harder than those for Unlocker v1. And people still can’t follow these without asking me for every little thing.

Ok so for the mac people I found a way to still use the origin dlc unlocker even after switching to the EA app. It’s a bit of an annoying process to go through but for now I can still play the game with all the DLCs so it’s better than nothing I guess. For this to work you need to have both Origin and EA installed on your computer. Luckily origin for mac is still available to download online if your origin was deleted when you switched to EA.

The steps:

1. Open origin
2. Open EA (press cancel when it asks for admin password and press ok on communication error pop up)
3. Go online on origin
4. Open sims (from where you have it saved on your computer not from the EA app. For me I just type sims in the spotlight search bar and open it from there)
5. Close sims and quit origin
6. Run the add fake entitlements command (don’t have to do the step of opening origin and sims online first then closing because you have just done that)
7. Open origin
8. Close EA app
9. Open ea app (again press cancel on admin password and ok on error pop up)
10. Go offline on ea app
11. Open sims
12. Play with DLC!

anyway hope this helps someone, i know its a lot of steps but like i said better than nothing i guess.

The undermentioned will no longer work when you have switched from the Origin to the EA app

Pack System: Add pirated DLC’s to your legal Origin base game (Mac version)

When you have at least the Sims 4 base game via Origin you can add pirated DLC’s to your legal game for free. (Not sure that it also works for Steam)
You can get the legal base game for free from Origin now.

  • Always automatically the latest version (Origin updates it for you)
  • No problems with anti-virus (there are no cracks)
  • Much smaller downloads (example: Cottage Living is now only 1.6 GB instead of 11,4 GB)
  • Easier to add missing DLC’s for free
  • Less problems with your CC
  • Access to the Gallery
  • No game-cracked folder
  • No hassle with remid cookie
  • Play via Origin/Steam as if you bought all expansions..

New DLC’s however must still be added manually (step 3), although much smaller in size. (example: Cottage Living now 11,4 GB, with this system only 1,6 GB)

Preparations in Origin

  1. Log in to your Origin account
  2. Click on the word Origin (left top bar)
  3. Click Application Settings
  4. Click Application
  5. In Client update:   switch “Automatic game updates” and “Automatically update Origin” on – see picture below.
    Now your game and Origin update whenever you start your The Sims 4

 

 

 

Find the location of your original (legal) game

The packs should be in:
[Your home directory] > Applications > The Sims 4 Packs

What the home directory is called will depend on what your user/computer is called. To find it, you can use the Finder – it should be in the left hand menu with a little house icon. Otherwise you can also open the finder and press command + shift + H to open the home directory 🙂

NB there is also a The Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts (this is where saves go), as well as multiple other folders/shortcuts called ‘Applications’ which makes this all a little trickier than necessary!

As i don’t have a Mac i can’t try it out. 

STEP 1

  1. Download a small file Origin DLC Unlocker v1
  2. Double-click to extract the downloaded file
  3. Quit Origin (closing the window is not the same)
  4. Ignore the Windows files
  5. From the downloaded and extracted file Run “fix OriginClient.command”.
    If you get an error stating the file comes from an unidentified developer – right click that file and select “Open”.
    If you get an error stating you don’t have appropriate access priviliges – make the script file executable
  6. Run “add fake entitlements.command” and do what it says.

If you want to revert all changes. Run “delete entitlements.command” and re-download Origin app

Things to remember:

When Origin updates repeat step 5.
When a game gets a new DLC re-download the Unlocker and repeat step 6.
When a game gets a new update you don’t have to do absolutely anything.

From now on every time you want to play the game:
0. Exit Origin if it’s running.
1. Start Origin (you MUST be online).
2. Select Origin > Go Offline.
3. Start the game.
4. Try going online, you can do it from Origin in-game overlay. If that removes the DLCs repeat the process and stay offline.
5. Enjoy your game!

STEP 2 (Optional)

  1. When you already have cracked DLC’s in another folder, copy the EP’s, GP’s and SP’s only to the folder of your legal game
  2. When Origin updates repeat step 5 of Step 1
    When a game gets a new DLC re-download the Unlocker and repeat step 6 of Step 1.
  3. Play the game via the legal installation folder – Game ->Bin ->TS4_x64 or shortcut thereof.

For those who are struggling to add DLC’s to their game, here’s an easier way of understanding:

  1. Make sure you’ve repeated “STEP 1” for the DLC Unlocker
  2. Download chosen DLC’s (via https://sims.tarac.nl/direct-links-to-packs/) and extract the folder from the .iso file* (e.g. SP35)
  3. Locate your ‘The Sims 4 Packs’ folder:
    a. Open Finder and do: Shift + Command + H
    b. Click on ‘Applications’
    c. Locate ‘The Sims 4 Packs’ folder, if missing create a new folder with the exact name
  4. Drag your DLC folder (e.g. SP35) into ‘The Sims 4 Packs’ folder
  5. Download the DLC Unlocker again and run: “fix OriginClient.command”
  6. Open Origin and go to: Account > Go Offline (in the menu bar)
  7. Open your Sims 4 game

*Double click the .iso file and drag out the folder from the window
** Right-Click File > Open With > Terminal

NOTE:
• You must repeat steps 4-5 in order to add new DLC’s to your game
• Steps 6-7 must be repeated every time you want to open your game to play with DLC’s and/or with online features
• If your DLC’s haven’t appeared in-game, restart Origin and repeat step 6

Alright, so it seems that some people have been having issues downloading the new pack. First of all, it’s best to install the LATEST version of the unlocker:

-because the unlocker has been recently updated. The DLCs are not up to download individually on the website anymore, so an option is to download a torrent client. It’ll help you open .torrent files on Mac. I recommend Transmission as it is a simple and easy for beginners torrent client for Mac.

*By the way, once the downloads of the DLCs are complete, you’ll have to extract those as .rar files. In order to extract .rar files on Mac, download The Unarchiver on the app store.

In order for:
EP13: Growing Together
EP14: Horse Ranch
SP40: Greenhouse Haven Kit
SP41 Basement Treasures Kit
SP42: Grunge Revival Kit
SP43: Book Note Kit

-to show up in your game, you have to go to Applications, Shift + Command H, click on the Applications folder, right click on TS4, show package contents, and drag them in the contents folder.

The rest of the DLCs can be simply added into The Sims 4 Packs folder.

So, in order for the DLCs to work in your game, you have to:

1. Download Origin DLC Unlocker *recent updated version.
2. Right click on fix.OriginClientcommand and click open. Press a key and Origin Client will be fixed.
3. Right click on add.fakeentitlementscommand and press open. Complete the first instructions provided. After the first instructions are complete, press 2. Then press another key to finish the command.
4. *VERY IMPORTANT* Run fix. OriginClientcommand again. Make sure you press a key to finish the command.
5. Open Origin as ONLINE and go to your profile. Click on TS4, then at the top left of your screen Click Account and then Go Offline.
6. Open TS4 as online. The packs should now work in the game.

If it still doesn’t work, you might have to run the deleteenitlements.command and uninstall TS4 AND Origin. Then you’d have to redo all of the instructions. Pain in the ass to install the sims again I know, but it’ll be a fresh copy.
OR, you can try to go to Documents > Electronic Arts and drag The Sims 4 folder to your desktop. Run TS4 as offline. The packs should refresh and you’ll always have a backup of your mods/CC if you play with them.

STEP 3 (Add missing DLC’s)

  1. Download the DLC’s from this site
  2. Mount the downloaded DLC
  3. Copy  folders from the mounted iso to the folder of your legal game
  4. re-download the Unlocker and repeat step 5 of Step 1
  5. Play the game via the legal installation folder – Game ->Bin ->TS4_x64 or shortcut thereof. (or directly via Origin)

In STEP 3 (Add missing DLC’s) I struggled to find where my legal game packs are installed, so I thought I’d share what I found in case anyone else is having the same issue:

The packs should be in:

STEP 4 (add future DLC’s to your game)

  1. Download the torrent for the new DLC
  2. Extract by double-click
  3. Copy the downloaded and extracted folder  to your legal The Sims 4 folder
  4. re-download the Unlocker and repeat step 5 of Step 1

As you don’t have to worry about amendments in the folders __Install, Data, Delta, Game, Support (Origin does that for you) all you have to do is copy the extracted EP, FP, GP or SP folder from the download to your legal installation folder.

Presume the next DLC will be SP42 then, instead of downloading several GB, it will be restricted to maybe 250 MB)
For just (Pre-)Updates you do not need anything at all. Just play the game and it will be automatically updated to the latest version.

Adding DLC’s: Suitable for Windows and Mac

  1. Go to this link
  2. Select the DLC you want
  3. Click on Download
  4. Mount the downloaded .iso
  5. Copy the DLC to the  Packs folder (Mac) or to your installation folder (Windows)

 

Simple way of installing all 18 languages in one go

Please bear in mind that when you installed the game via Origin only 1 language is available, meaning that when you installed in English you cannot change to f.e. Norwegian.
In such cases you’ll have to re-install the game in Norwegian in Origin.
Also downloads from many other sources are often in 1 language only (such as English or Spanish)

Download the Language Strings, extract with Winrar and copy all folders to your legal installation folder
When you have all languages installed, download the Language Changer, double-click and select your language.
In our downloads all languages are already installed.
You can activate the Language-changer from anywhere on your computer, no specific folder required.

  1. I’m having a problem with the Get Together pack. Every other pack works perfectly fine but Get Together won’t install and says that I need to preorder it (but the pack is available to buy right now so I don’t understand why it says preorder) does anyone know how to fix this?

    1. I’m replying to my own comment because I fixed the problem. Turns out my Origin unlocked was outdated to I just redownloaded it and it works. I hope that helps anyone who is having the same problem 🙂

  2. Hi there! Thanks so much for this! I’m trying to play with the new book nook pack, pack 43, and I can’t get the pack to show up in my game. All the other pack pop up as “owned” but the book nook and grunge revival show up as “not owned”. I’ve re-downloaded the DLC unlocker & ran the commands three times now and its still not popping up. Do I need to just keep re-downloaded & re-running? Or am I doing something wrong. Thanks!!

  3. I’ve been trying to open the game, but the sims 4 icon appears in dock and then disappears immediately and the game won’t even open. Can anyone help me? I’ve been stuck since May, I tried to update the game, repair it, re-download it etc

    1. My game broke in May… I ended up having to uninstall all the downloaded dlc (I downloaded using direct links to packs) and I guess I have to reinstall using torrents. I have almost zero clue how though so I might be SOL.

  5. I don’t like playing with occults, so I don’t want to download Vampires, Realm of Magic or Werewolves, so is there any way to not download them or delete them after I finish downloading the all in one iso torrent?

    2. When I went to download the files using uTorrent, it allowed me to select which packs I wanted to download. Just deselect the ones you don’t want and it should work

  11. Hi all, Im having a problem that when i go to play sims 4 its stating that i need to download the packs to use. But it states i own all packs just that i need to download them. from what I understand the DLCs are in the correct the sims 4 packs folder. I have tried everything i could think of to solve this problem. Does anyone have a solution to this?

  14. i’m running into some problems with changing the language. i am playing on mac, so it’s really hard to find tutorials or explanations on how to do this. i got my game from origin and got region-locked into playing in russian/polish/czech and i would like to play in english. i tried the method at the bottom of the article but mac refuses to run the EXE file. what should i do?

I’d like to see what everyone else is doing to know where I’m going wrong, cause I’m doing everything possible in the way I can but I’m getting the same results. Or if a discord server isn’t possible maybe a video example. I’m stuck on the I own the packs, but I need to download it bit (which isn’t possible cause I have to come online for that).   21. my experience trying to download dlc’s and get them to work, so I’ve tried multiple times to get my dlc’s to work. no dice. it shows that I own it, but it doesn’t work on my game. I’ve deleted my origin completely, done a reset, re-downloaded origin Unlocker multiple times, deleted my dlcs, re-downloaded them. followed every single step to the point that im not seeing the same options anymore. I don’t have space on my Mac, individual downloads don’t work anymore. I don’t understand torrents completely, so I can unzip them but im befuddled on what to do with seeding, but winrar doesn’t work. regardless, it shows that I own the packs so I must be doing something right. at this point I’ve decided to give up, and enjoy a boring game like that I’ve deleted past saves that had dlc packs because I can’t play them anymore. if anyone has any advice I will appreciate it, cause it seems my experience is unique.

  22. I have downloaded all of the DLCs on Mac and they all show up in game. ‘Create A Sim’ and BUILD mode works fine.

    But in LIVE mode the sims won’t do anything – they won’t follow any commands or do anything themselves on full autonomy. They just stand there, they sometimes move but won’t complete any commands as if they’re stuck and need resetting- but it happens to every sim in every lot. I have tried restarting it but the problem is always there.

    Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
    (I have no mods or cc)

      1. I took out all the packs and added them back one by one and SP13 (laundry day) was the bugged pack for me! Try removing that pack and see if it works 🙂

  24. guys!! if you are having trouble with your dlcs not showing up in game (saying not owned) you need to go into your fix originclient and if it says something about not giving access and a disc access thing but then it says process completed your probably just gonna ignore it like i did and the dlcs wont show up. you need to go into your settings then privacy and security then full disc access and give terminal access to your disk. if you dont see terminal, press the little plus button and itll take you to your files so search for terminal and enable it. if you do this it will work like it did for me!!

  26. Do everything as strictly as possible according to the instructions. That is, first install the origin, log in to it, close the program completely, preferably through the command + Q command. download unlocker, then “fix OriginClient.command”, then “add fake entitlements.command”. There you need to open the origin while the terminal is open with this command, leave it online and start the game, wait until it turns on, check if the gallery is online, then exit the game and completely close the origin via command + Q. Then select Sims4 (press 2). Next, add the downloaded add-ons to The Sims4 Packs folder. There is a trap here. if you downloaded through torrents, then after unzipping there will be add-on folders, but inside them there is another folder with the same name and that’s exactly what you need to throw into The Sims4 Packs folder.

  28. Followed all the steps tarac gave. But nothing is working. Uninstalled origin and reinstalled in and did the whole add and fix origin client steps. But it keeps coming up with this message in the terminal app:

    “xattr: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: ‘/Applications/Origin.app/Contents/MacOS/OriginClient’
    Allow Terminal to access files and then run this script again: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/control-access-files-folders-mac-mchld5a35146/mac
    If you see this message again – grant the Full Disk Access to the Terminal app.”

    I have granted access and did the add and fix steps again, but still nothing is working.

    Can anyone help?

    1. On your Mac go to settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access > Turn on where it says Terminal. Save your settings and then try running everything again. Should work.

  30. Guys it finally worked! Look for both Tarac’s comments and follow them step by step. Here’s a quick recap.

    First I followed this link reset and downloaded Origin again: https://help.ea.com/en/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/

    Then I followed exactly what Tarac said:
    1. Open Origin (if you see the “Origin Requires an Update” window – select the second option, “Update Origin”).
    2. Open Origin settings (hover over your username, select “Application Settings”), scroll down and under “Client Update” disable “Automatically update Origin”.
    3. Run the game.
    4. Quit the game, quit Origin.
    5. Run “fix OriginClient” script.
    6. Run “add fake entitlements” script – skip the part that tells you to run the game, you already did it.
    7. Open Origin – click “Don’t update and use Origin in offline mode”.
    8. Run the game.

    If you get some error in Origin after 7th step, like “Well, that didn’t go as planned” – ignore it and continue to the next step. Just run the game from Applications folder.

    If it still doesn’t work – reset Origin (https://help.ea.com/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/) and try again from the first step.

    1. Hi, to anyone that needs help, ive managed to get the sims 4 all packs working as of May 27th along with the gallery.

      If you have Origin and TS4 installed and the packs aren’t working, make sure you’ve quit both the applications if they’re open using Activity Monitor, or just use Command + Q.

      Then download DLC Unlocker again, and right click on delete entitlements command. Open the terminal and do what it says.

      After that, open Origin and uninstall TS4. Sometimes in order for all packs to work again you have to reinstall the whole game. After you uninstall TS4, quit Origin and delete Origin.

      Google Origin and install it again. After you finish installing, if it tells you to update Origin, do so first. After that, hover over your profile, go to Application Settings, and under client update disable “Automatically update Origin.”

      Reinstall TS4. Then run the game.
      Quit the game, and then Origin. Right click and open “fix OriginClient” command, then right click and open “add fake entitlements script.” Press a key to continue and press 2. Then press another key to finish the command.

      Go to applications, shift + command + H, click on the Applications folder, then go to the sims 4 packs folder. Download the dlc packs you want then drag it into the sims 4 packs folder.
      **IN ORDER FOR GROWING TOGETHER (EP13), GREENHOUSE HAVEN KIT (EP40), BASEMENT TREASURES KIT (EP41) to show up in your game, you have to right click on TS4, show package contents, and put EP13, EP40, and EP41 into the contents folder.

      Finally, make sure you quit Origin and run “fix OriginClient” command again. Then go to your profile, click on sims 4, and in the top left of your screen click Account and Go Offline.

      Play the sims 4. The packs should now work. You can go online once you’re in the game. You just have to be offline when you’re starting TS4. Just open Origin, click Account, and Go Online.

      Sorry this was so long yall but I finally made it work for me 🙂

  32. I have tried uninstalling, repairing, etc. Origin multiple times along with the Origin Unlocker protocol at least a dozen times and none of my DLC is showing up still – even with turning off updates the whole shebang.

    Anyone have any updates? Or is this just a me problem?

    2. I think im experiencing the same thing for me it shows that I own the packs, but it doesn’t appear in my game. I’ve only restarted two times though.

    1. Hello! this was happening to me too. check for pack repeats in the sims 4 packs folder. I noticed I had downloaded an EP twice- took one out and the problem was fixed.

  34. add fake entiltements isnt working for me. it always tells me that origin is still running which it isnt i made sure in activity manager. anyone know what the problem is ? (i also deleted the unlocker and origin multiple times and tried it again)

    1. i have a similar problem – when i run the origin fixer, it says “info to fix your origin client not found” and i’ll wait an hour to see if it’ll work but im just rly confused

  37. For anyone who wants to play now:

    1. Run “fix OriginClient”
    2. Run “add fake entitlements”
    3. Open Origin and choose the option “Don’t update and run offline”
    4. Go to Library and run the game from there.
    5. Voila! All your DLC purchased.

    Cons: You won’t be able to use the gallery.

    1. Sometimes Origin gives an error message, so keep logging out and back in the Origin until the error goes away. Or try later.

    2. Choosing “Don’t update and run offline” directs me to the Orgin login and says “Origin login is currently unavailable.” And it won’t let me login. Have you encountered this?

      1. Same! I selected disable “Automatically update Origin” and quit Origin I ran the below steps (1, 2, 3) and it appeared an error message from Origin “Origin login is currently unavailable.” Then I did the same steps 4 times until don’t see the error message.

        1. Run “fix OriginClient”
        2. Run “add fake entitlements”
        3. Open Origin and choose the option “Don’t update and run offline”

      1. Important info for Mac players using DLC Unlocker

        2. Open Origin settings (hover over your username, select “Application Settings”), scroll down and under “Client Update” disable “Automatically update Origin”.
        3. Run the game.

        6. Run “add fake entitlements” script – skip the part that tells you to run the game, you already did it.
        7. Open Origin – click “Don’t update and use Origin in offline mode”.
        8. Run the game.

        If you get some error in Origin after 7th step, like “Well, that didn’t go as planned” – ignore it and continue to the next step. Just run the game from Applications folder.

        If it still doesn’t work – reset Origin (https://help.ea.com/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/) and try again from the first step.

        Unfortunately you won’t be able to use the gallery but at the moment of writing this the gallery is down anyway. So let’s hope EA fixes both of those issues soon.

          I followed all the steps. However, on step 7, upon opening Origin it directs me to the login interface and it says “Origin login is currently unavailable.” I can’t even log in to use Origin. :/

        3. The game run my DLC again, but I still have the problem that my sims won’t move or do anithing? Any clue on what should I do, I even tried an deleted all my CC, the won’t ansewr to any command but just stand there. I can ongly build, but my gameplay is basically stuck

  41. packs are still missing when I opened the game. Origin needs to be fixed I guess. I followed the DLC unlocker again and it didn’t work. Hopefully they will fix the “keep asking for update” issues

  42. ufff what a release yesterday when i saw your comments. thanks to the community! here still not working neither. I guess its an opportunity to go back to our roots and appreciate the basic game haha. BTW, one question. now when i execute “add fake entitlements” and i choose sims 4 it says: Couldn’t find entitlement files, you were supposed to start the game!
    does this happen to any of you? thank you!

    3. same here so I decided to deleted everything and redownload all of it, but the steps Im doing now is deleted my sims 4 and origin, and only redownloaded my origin for wait until they fixed the updating issue

  49. 5/25/23 Update 4:00pm EST — I’ve repeated step 5 as 2 hours ago they announced things were fixed. However, everything still says unowned 🙁 Did anyone get theirs to work?

    2. Not working for me either. Just a continuous circle of updating, restarts Origin, looks ok but then says a restart needed to install updates. Tried opening Sims 4 anyway and all DLCs gone. This is almost 9:22pm (UK time on 25th May).

  50. FOR THOSE ON MAY 25TH W/ ORIGIN NOT WORKING/ UPDATING CORRECTLY (as of 12:40PM EST!) Their websites says to follow @EAhelp on Twitter for updates, this is probably why our DLCs are not working! 🙂
